JQL Search Extensions

Performing advanced searches within Jira requires the use of Jira Query Language (JQL). Atlassian has done a great job defining how this query language can be used in the following articles:

Out of the box, this capability gives users most of what they need to interact with Jira’s extensive datasets and build smart, custom views of data, filters, dashboards, etc. However, as users become more savvy, and start interacting with their data in creative ways, there are some limitations between data relationships that prevent you from getting at the data you want. This is where Atlassian’s Marketplace comes to the forefront within Atlassian’s ecosystem, enabling users to leverage powerful apps that improve operability.

JQL Search Extensions for Jira is a fantastic plugin for Jira users who need more flexibility with JQL. Within this plugin there are over 50 JQL search extensions that enable you do get at the data you want. Our personal favourite being AllIssuesInEpic(jql-query or issuekey) which allows you to build strong hierarchy views from filters. The results show dependencies from Epic to Story/Task down to Subtask.

If you are into planning, managing, taking insights from team work, we highly recommend leveraging this capability.
